With many local and national cinema chains closing recently - such as Vue and the Belmont Filmhouse - Radar is here to give you some tips on how to experience the wonderful world of the cinema in your own home!
1. Create the right atmosphere!
To create the atmosphere that people would often associate with the cinema, make sure that all lights in your chosen room are off. Since the cinema is normally in darkness, it would be beneficial if you have blackout curtains to cover your windows with. If not, then normal curtains or blinds would do the trick. If you want your own version of a movie night, some candles with your favourite smells would get you in the mood to relax and have the time of your life!
2. Get some cinema-inspired snacks!
A trip to the cinema is never complete without some delicious snacks to eat while enjoying the film. Since the cinemas are closed, you can buy your own snacks from the supermarkets or you can make your own. Some supermarkets like Tesco have their own pick ‘n’ mix section of the aisle so you can easily recreate the experience of picking your own sweets in the cinema. Some cinema snacks are super easy to make like nachos, hot dogs or even popcorn! The best part of making your own cinema snacks is that you can put your own twist on it and be satisfied by your creations as you eat it. Toffee-flavoured popcorn? You can make it! Hot dogs with all the toppings you could ever want? By all means, go for it! Nachos with lots of cheese sauce and other toppings you love? There is nothing stopping you from putting whatever you want on your snacks.
3. Get comfy - with clothes and seating!
The best part about the cinema experience is that you get to escape the real world for an hour or two and be comfortable while you’re at it. Since you’re at home, you can wear whatever you desire. If you want to dress up for the occasion or even wear a onesie, it’s completely up to you! A comfy seat is essential for watching your chosen movie(s). An option you can consider as well is that you can cover yourself with a blanket while you watch your films. If you want to enhance your at-home cinema experience, remember to turn your phone off - it will make you less distracted and you can appreciate the films more.
4. Find the right screen for you!
Another great thing about being at home while watching films is that you can watch films any time on any screen. If you want a true cinema feel to your movie night, you can watch your films through a projector. If you don’t have that however, you can watch it on your TV or your tablet/laptop.
5. Get a selection of films if you want to spend a night at your home cinema!
There are many ways people can access a range of films nowadays such as by using Netflix, Disney+ or other streaming services. If you prefer the ‘old-fashioned’ way of watching films and have a DVD player, you can still buy DVDs from your local supermarket. If you want to save money on buying DVDs, then going to some charity shops would be a good idea. You can save money and support a great cause - it’s definitely a win-win situation for both you and the charities!
So this is how you can recreate the cinema experience from your home. Whether you’re a movie buff, or even if you want a nice night in, within the comfort of your home, you can rediscover that same nostalgic feeling of being in the cinema!
