The British band originally hailing from Brighton released their debut album, You Are Someone Else, today after spending two years on it. Their sound is a mix of indie-pop and electronic with catchy choruses and punchy verses.
Fans will already know ‘Swim’, ‘Hello Hello’, ‘Hard To Be Myself’ and ‘Glue’ which are laced with feel-good summery vibes and the rest of the album certainly follows suit.
Having already released eleven singles there was a slight worry that there would be nothing left for the album but it doesn’t disappoint. The album begins with newest single ‘Wake Me Up’ which lead singer, Natti Shiner, explains the song as being about “wanting a relationship to work so bad but knowing deep down, it’s not going anywhere.”
The band are no stranger to meaningful lyrics in an upbeat track – take ‘Heartbroken’ and ‘Bite’ for example. Which are full of energy and show off Natti’s effortlessly slick vocals.
A song that seems out of the ordinary is ‘In My Head’, you could almost imagine The 1975 performing this. It’s got that ethereal/lack of production value that just seems completely in the opposite direction to the rest of the album, luck for us though it only lasts two minutes.
Fans may recognise ‘Paris’ which graced the bands Velvet EP back in 2015. Since then the song has gone under some more editing and it’s resulted in an even more sleeker, entrancing sound.
The album is mixed together with deep and meaningful lyrics about toxic relationships, growing up and mental health. Fickle Friends are definitely a welcome and refreshing new addition to the scene.
The band have just announced their biggest UK tour yet which will see them play The Garage in, Glasgow on the 24th October. Tickets are on sale today so grab yours quick, they are not one to miss.
