RGU:Union's Deeview Student Store is set to receive a new home this summer.
RGU:Union's Deeview Student Store is set to receive a new home this summer. The lower level of the RGU SPORT building, outside the current Union offices, will house a new development containing the relocated shop alongside a bookable meeting space, which can be used by clubs, societies and student groups.
The last year has seen a number improvements to the space outside the RGU:Union offices, with investment for new sofas and furniture helping to create a vibrant social space at the heart of campus. These changes have been delivered in partnership between RGU:Union and the University, with feedback from students representatives shaping the decisions. In Summer 2015, the Union developed this social space further to include astroturf, music, and a brand new street food outlet. The area has become a key space on campus, with a number of events taking place during term-time.
The University is developing this space to enhance the student experience, and alongside the Deeview Store and meeting space, there will also be a new link corridor created between the RGU SPORT building and Aberdeen Business School. This will vastly improve the temperature in both ABS and throughout the Union's social space.
Student President (Communication and Democracy), Edward Pollock said "This investment from the university into the RGU:Union space really is an exciting new project. The brand new shop will continue to serve the needs of students and staff, and it's very pleasing to be able to say that the space has been designed in partnership between students and staff. I am particularly excited about the new meeting space, which will be a highly valuable resource for societies, sports clubs and the Union's other student groups. I hope that this constantly evolving RGU:Union space will be a fun, welcoming, interactive area that will help build to a great student experience."

The work will take place this summer, starting in June, with the Deeview Student Store relocating prior to Freshers 2016 in September. Over the course of the summer months, the RGU:Union office will temporarily move to SB9, Garthdee House Annex (old Scott Sutherland building) and access to the current Union space will be closed off completely. The project is likely to last twelve weeks, however students and staff will be advised of any changes to RGU:Union's operations through our official website and social media.
