We recently caught up with RGU Alumni Cuthbert Ngairongwe and Bob Mathenge, to find out more about their impressive and varied careers in Construction Law and Arbitration since graduating from RGU.
Cuthbert Ngairongwe, LLM Construction Law and Arbitration
Cuthbert Ngairongwe, who studied LLM Construction Law and Arbitration, is originally from Zimbabwe and runs his own business, Pamvura Investment, in South Africa.
Graduating in 2017, Cuthbert believes his time at RGU really prepared him for the world of work. He says, “my experience at RGU was quite enriching and satisfying. It sharpened my analytical, critical thinking and networking skills, which skills are required to succeed professionally. More crucially, it armed me with a unique and invaluable qualification which has given me a strong competitive edge in the professional sphere.”
A Professional Civil Engineer, International Arbitrator and Construction & Engineering Law expert, his experience spans civil engineering design, engineering & construction contracts, management and administration, project management, the preparation and evaluation of claims and alternative dispute resolution processes.
Cuthbert’s career journey to date includes being promoted to Deputy Regional Manager at Ingerop South Africa (Pty) Ltd and opening his own company - Pamvura Investment - in 2018. Based in South Africa, it provides construction law advisory services, alternative dispute resolution and civil engineering services.
He obtained a Diploma in International Arbitration with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in February 2019, as a result of which he is now a Fellow of the Institute through the International Arbitration Pathway.
He has put his knowledge to good use in several resolution and arbitration proceedings and provided construction law and engineering advisory services into various investigations.
Cuthbert’s biggest career achievement to date was getting his first appointment as a Party Representative in a construction arbitration case, during his final year of study for the LLM Construction Law and Arbitration.
Bob Mathenge, LLM Construction Law & Arbitration
Bob Mathenge, also a graduate of LLM Construction Law & Arbitration at RGU, is currently a Director of CMAS (Contract Management Advisory Services), a consultancy partnership based in Nairobi, Kenya. He undertook the course 25 years after completing his bachelor’s degree.
Bob says, “my knowledge base had stagnated as a consultant in Contract Management. I needed a spark to re-ignite my consultancy work through deeper understanding of Construction Law as taught & practiced in more developed economies. The course opened my eyes to new and developing intricacies of Construction Law. In addition, the course revitalized my critical thinking and written communication skills.”
Throughout his career, Bob has been directly involved in Building and Civil Engineering Works projects over a wide range of disciplines covering Contract Administration, Quantity Surveying, Project Management and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Bob’s biggest achievement to date has been getting into the world of Alternative Dispute Resolution through active participation in Arbitrations and Dispute Boards.
