Inchgarth Community Centre
This opportunity takes place from 05 Aug 2018
Working at the cafe you will serve and chat with customers, stock up items, make coffee & tea, and more. The cafe plays a vital role in our community, and all profits go towards offering better services to the community.
Build and update our website and other community projects sites. You will have a lot of freedom as long as our centre has a fresh, clean and content filled website.
Our centre is constantly needing maintained and one of the biggest and most expensive tasks is painting rooms, corridors, halls, patching up paint jobs, doors, staining, fences etc. Some of the spaces are quite small, no bigger than your average house toilet or living room, so it doesn’t need to be a huge commitment and done in one visit. We would love painters to give a little time to our centre to help us maintain the building so that money can be better spent helping some of the most vulnerable people in society.
We have a very nice music room with guitars, piano and drums. We would love to have someone teaching music to kids, help them improve their creativity and have as much fun as they can. Either your an experience musician or a self-made rock star who are keen to pass on their music skills, we are waiting for you!
Help us keep the centre clean and tidy! With the centre being so big, we really do need help to keep it looking good for everyone to enjoy. It involves some of the following tasks which you can do as much of or as little of as you wish. • Keeping the fitness room equipment, window sills, and carpet clean • Keeping our café and stock room tidy • Keeping pool tables brushed, window sills and general declutter in our pool hall • Giving the music room a hoover and equipment a dust and declutter • Helping keep our kitchen clean, tidy and clutter free • Giving our grounds and playpark a litter pick • Wiping surfaces around the centre • Doing some hoovering and general dusting • Helping with filling the dish-washer
Help us keep our several social media pages updated with the most recent information about our activities, events and classes. You will also manage online marketing campaign to get more members and volunteers if you fancy it.

Working in close partnership with Bike Pad & StreetSport mechanics and Bike Hire organisers, the role of the Bike Pad management support volunteer is to ensure the smooth operation of Bike Pad – RGU’s free community bicycle workshop. Your priority will be on administrative tasks, i.e. ordering spare parts, organising training for Bike Pad mechanics, prioritising which bikes to repair, being the contact person for the workshop, organising other volunteers, scheduling and setting the agenda for regular team meetings, etc. The role will be of interest to students who are looking to develop their skills in management, communication and running a business. We welcome volunteers from all genders and backgrounds to approach us for this opportunity – Bike Pad is an inclusive space that values diversity.
Working alongside GoGreen staff and other volunteers (Bike Pad management support volunteers and Bike Pad mechanics), the role of the Bike Hire scheme management support volunteers is to administer RGU’s existing Bike Hire scheme. The role is very similar to running a business and you will be responsible – among other things - for marketing the project, setting a price for hires and the amount for a security deposit, responding to potential customers, filling out rental agreements, updating relevant documentation, setting a budget for maintenance work and communication with other management support volunteers to ensure all relevant tasks are carried out. You will also coordinate the bike hire and return process throughout the two semesters in a customer-facing aspect of the role and ensure all stakeholders are informed of the decisions you make. Finally, you will be a part of the decision-making process on how to invest the monies received from the hiring of bicycles, after accounting for maintenance costs and other reasonable expenses. We welcome volunteers from all genders and backgrounds to approach us for this opportunity – RGU: Union is an inclusive space that values diversity.
