SGN Training - Health & Safety

Writing a Risk Assessment

The risk assessment templates can be found here (Forms and Admin (rguunion.co.uk)). You’ve probably noticed that some are for on/off campus and others involve alcohol. Pick the risk assessment that best applies to your event and make sure to fill in the top bar of info and to include anything that your event has that isn’t covered by the risk assessment.

If your event has something that isn’t covered by the risk assessment when writing it up think of the following;

  • Identify what could cause a potential risk
  • Decide how likely it is that someone could be harmed and how serious the risk is
  • Take action to mitigate the hazard, control the risk or outright remove the risk if possible

Reporting an Incident/Accident

For reporting incidents or accidents, you’d do so by following this link Incident / Accident Reporting (rguunion.co.uk)

Applicable Insurance Details

While your Society meets on university or RGU:Union property, you will be covered by our insurance. However, it is up to you, the SGN, to ensure that you complete a risk-assessment form before hosting or attending any events, on or off campus. You will also need to ensure that you are covered when you are off campus; for example, when planning a paintball event, you will need to ask the paintballing venue if their insurance will cover you while you are present.

If you ever need a copy of our insurance, please get in touch with the SU to ask for a copy for it whilst stating your need for it.
