Kayleigh Jarrett
President of Sport and Physical Activity
I am in my final year of Applied Sport and Exercise Science where I’ve gained a deep understanding of the benefits of sport and physical activity. I’m eager to use my knowledge and experience to enhance the RGU student sports community and promote well-being. As Club Captain, Coach, and Committee Member of my running club, I’ve developed strong leadership and communication skills, actively listening to members, addressing concerns, and ensuring the club operates in their best interests.
Play and Exercise More, Pay Less: Not everyone can afford to be a part of sports clubs so I want to continue developing the current President’s initiative of creating a budget for students to apply for reduced club fees. I’ll advocate to keep the RGU gym membership free. This will assist with limiting financial barriers, making sports and exercise more accessible and boosting participation. Amid the cost-of-living crisis, ensuring equal access to sports and exercise is more important than ever.
Increasing Awareness to Boost Participation: I am committed to promoting RGU sports clubs through engaging events and campaigns, ensuring students know about training, memberships, and facilities. By enhancing communication via social media, campus promotions, and collaborations, I’ll make it easier for students to find and join sports that interest them. A more visible and accessible sports community will drive participation, strengthening student well-being and belonging.
Promoting Unity, Inclusivity & Club Growth: I am driven to making RGU Sport a welcoming space for all, regardless of background or sporting experience. My goal is to ensure every student feels recognised and supported. I will lead diversity schemes, host inclusive events, and strengthen feedback channels to amplify student voices. Fostering open dialogue and forming strong connections, we can create a unified, accessible sports community where everyone feels valued and empowered to participate.
Mental health challenges are a growing concern for students due to academic pressures and finances. Sport and exercise are powerful tools for reducing stress, boosting mood and having a supportive community. Collaboration between Student Presidents and Vice Presidents is essential for promoting the mental health benefits of sport, increasing accessibility, and ensuring all students feel supported. This includes organising well-being initiatives and enhancing sports program to assist students.
