Luke Davidson
President of Sport and Physical Activity
As RGU Athletics President & Track Captain, I’ve gained insight into running a sports club. On SPAT, I launched the Dodgeball Tournament, now in its second year. My placement with RGU Sport I am currently leading a Learn to Run initiative, creating new opportunities for all. A multiple BUCS finalist & Scottish Uni champion, I’m passionate about leadership, student sport, and expanding opportunities. I’ve also led teams abroad raising £20,000+ for charity.
Aim: Strengthen the connection between students and sports clubs, creating clear pathways for engagement. Why? Many students struggle to find opportunities to get involved in clubs, missing out on skill development and community benefits. Problem: A lack of structured links between students and clubs limits participation and club growth. Plan: Develop an accessible system for students to connect with clubs, offering CV-boosting roles while enhancing club sustainability and engagement.
Aim: Promote health & wellbeing through inclusive sport. Why? Many students lack accessible and practical opportunities to stay active Problem: Barriers to entry prevent participation in physical activity. Plan: Launch inclusive initiatives like Learn to Run & Dodgeball, ensuring all students can engage in sports, and making physical activity a core part of student life, that works for you.
Aim: Increase funding & sponsorship opportunities for student sports. Why? Limited financial support restricts opportunities for clubs and athletes to develop Problem: High costs and ineffective sponsors prevent student participation and club growth. Plan: Secure new sponsorships & funding streams, build partnerships to reduce costs and expand opportunities and open new doors for all students.
Student engagement in university sports and activities is limited due to financial barriers, lack of awareness, and accessibility challenges. I will collaborate with student presidents to strengthen student-club links, promote inclusive health initiatives, and secure innovative sponsorships that align with modern student needs. By working closely with clubs, we will ensure they have the support and resources necessary to thrive, making sport more accessible and beneficial for all.
