SETH GOVERNOR-AGBONA
PRESIDENT (EDUCATION AND WELFARE)
As a student at RGU, I've actively engaged with the university community, providing me with a firsthand understanding of student needs and concerns. My experience as treasurer for Ghanaian students' association has honed my leadership, communication, and organizational skills. My commitment to student welfare, coupled with my proactive approach and dedication, makes me a strong candidate to represent the student body and drive positive change at RGU. I am ready to serve RGU.
1.Enhancing Educational Excellence & Innovation. Why it’s a priority: Education must be relevant, engaging, and future focused. Students need practical skills, interdisciplinary knowledge, and innovative learning methods to thrive in a competitive, AI-driven world. Action Plan: Conduct curriculum reviews with student input to ensure relevance and integrate AI literacy. Expand internships, co-ops, and industry partnerships for experiential learning. Promote innovative teaching methods and AI tool
2. Prioritizing Student Welfare & Well-being Why it’s a priority: Mental health, physical well-being, and financial security are essential for student success and a thriving university community. Action Plan: • Increase mental health services, reduce stigma, and offer stress management programs. • Improve campus health services, safety, and promote healthy living. • Advocate for financial aid, housing affordability, and provide financial literacy workshops.
4. Priority: Advocate for Increased Financial Aid & Bursary Opportunities Why it’s a priority: Financial barriers hinder academic success and well-being. Increased aid ensures equal access and reduces stress for students. How to achieve it: • Advocate for more funding, streamline applications, and expand donor/alumni networks. • Target underrepresented groups, raise awareness of aid, and lobby for policy changes to support students in need.
Based on current information, the biggest issue facing RGU students is the financial instability of the university, resulting from a confluence of factors including decreased international student enrollment and reductions in public funding. This is leading to restructuring, potential job losses, long-term quality of the student experience. RGU's financial crisis demands action. I'll advocate for student voices, mitigate impacts on education, & collaborate with others for sector-wide solutions.
