Candidate for the position of Vice President (International)

MUHAMMAD ADNAN

What relevant experience, skills and qualities do you have that make you a strong candidate for this elected position?

I am confident that my experience, skills, and commitment make me an excellent candidate for Vice President (International). As a Course Representative and Student Network Representative, I have successfully advocated for students, resolved challenges, and collaborated with diverse groups to enhance campus life. My leadership during a fellowship project, where I helped children from underprivileged areas access quality education, demonstrates my ability to drive impactful initiatives.

I possess strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, paired with a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by international students. Having lived and studied abroad, I am adaptable, empathetic, and passionate about fostering inclusion and cultural exchange.

If elected, I will prioritize support systems, career opportunities, and cultural events to ensure international students feel valued and empowered. My vision is to build a united, diverse, and thriving international community on campus.

Priority Aim 1

Establish a Dedicated International Student Support Hub:

I will advocate for a centralized, physical and online space dedicated to international student support. This hub will offer services like visa assistance, housing guidance, and access to academic and mental health resources tailored to international students’ unique needs. It will also serve as a space for peer networking and hosting workshops on cultural adaptation, financial planning, and career development.

Priority Aim 2

Launch the “Global Voices” Program:

I will create a platform where international students can share their stories, ideas, and challenges through events, newsletters, and online forums. This program will highlight the diversity on campus while ensuring international students’ feedback reaches university leadership. It will also promote initiatives like language exchange programs and cross-cultural mentorship, fostering stronger connections between international and domestic students.

Priority Aim 3

Advocate for Financial Relief and Accessibility:

I will prioritize securing additional scholarships, emergency funds, and affordable housing options for international students. Additionally, I will work on establishing partnerships with local businesses for discounted services, such as travel, groceries, and career-related certifications, easing the financial burden for international students.

What is the biggest issue currently facing RGU students, and how will you work with the rest of the Student Presidents and Vice Presidents to tackle this?

RGU students face a dual challenge of financial strain and insufficient mental health support. Rising living costs, tuition fees, and limited access to tailored well-being services create significant stress, particularly for international students adjusting to new environments.

To tackle this, I will work with Student Presidents and Vice Presidents to advocate for increased scholarships, affordable housing, and emergency funds. Together, we will push for enhanced, culturally sensitive mental health services and establish initiatives like peer-support programs and financial literacy workshops.

By addressing these challenges collaboratively, we can create a more supportive and inclusive environment for all RGU students.
