What relevant experience, skills and qualities do you have that make you a strong candidate for this elected position?

I have been part of a sports club at RGU for 5 years now and based on my experience as the president of cheerleading and my current role as fundraiser on the sport and physical activity team, I have a good insight on what it takes to run and organise a sports club from both perspectives. This has highlighted the areas where presidents and their clubs need more support from SPAT and has given me some ideas on how we can work on creating better experiences for every sports club at RGU.

Some of the skills that I have that are important to this role are strong communication, organisation and how to creatively problem solve.

Being involved in sport at RGU has been a really special part of my time at uni and this is an experience I’d like to be able to give to all current and future students.

Priority Aim 1

My first aim is to improve the fundraising experience for RGU sports clubs.

This is often a major concern for most teams and something that I feel I have the experience and knowledge to make it an opportunity rather than a task. One way I will achieve this is by organising fundraisers involving all sports clubs. Helping to make targets easier to reach, improving club relations and ultimately boosting everyone’s contribution. This should hopefully taking some stress off the clubs and ensure they can m make the most of participating in sports.

Priority Aim 2

My second priority aim is to give more support to non BUCS clubs.

A lot of funding and promotion goes into the clubs involved in BUCS tournaments, so I want to make sure the clubs that aren’t involved still receive an equal experience for their money and are given equal opportunities and recognition for their talents. I will aim to get these clubs more competitions or training times and make sure they are given the same amount of coverage on social media pages.

Priority Aim 3

My third aim is to create and promote sport and physical activity opportunities to the wider RGU community.

I want to be inclusive of those both with and without sports clubs’ memberships. I would do this through organising events such as fun sport days and open sessions within different clubs. Events such as these will help to include non-members in the sporting community and provide social opportunities across courses.

What is the biggest issue currently facing RGU students, and how will you work with the rest of the Student Presidents and Vice Presidents to tackle this?

I feel as though a key issue facing RGU students is the communication around how students can have a more hands on experience throughout their time at RGU. As the Sports president I would like to open up the communication with students and hear what they want from their time at uni and encourage them to speak up about what they want. I would do this by having a regular flow of feedback from the students and therefore can work with the other presidents and vice-presidents to provide the experience they want.
