What relevant experience, skills and qualities do you have that make you a strong candidate for this elected position?
Experience -
I am currently the Student School Officer for the School of Applied Social Studies, and the Vice President for the Go Green society.
So far, I have collaborated with various groups such as Peer Support, and CCB school.
I also submitted two motions for this year's Annual General Meeting, both of whom I incorporated in my main priorities for my Manifesto.
Skills-
My resilience, dedication, and potent drive for change is why I believe I am capable for this position. I am determined, and goal-oriented. When I have set a goal, I will do anything in my power to achieve the best results for the sake of the students.
My priority aims are understimated problems that can be dealt with certain ease, but still require stragetic and long-term solutions. My strong temperament, and desire for positive change is why I think I am the most suitable candidate.
Priority Aim 1
What is the Aim - Increase the visibility of financial support services.
Why is it a priority? - There are cases where students are embarassed to seek financial help. There are also instances of students completely unaware of what they can do to alleviate any financial burden.
What is the problem? - Financial aid is sufficiently provided by the Univerisity. Yet, there is not enough awareness around what is available.
How will I solve this? - I will create a connecting web of RGU students who will seek the respective help when they need to, without feeling ashamed.
Priority Aim 2
What is the Aim - Reduce Neurodivergency barriers that exist within the university.
Why is it a priority? - It has been an issue discussed for a prolonged period of time.
What is the problem? - It has gotten to the point of potentially disrupting or worsening the quality of students' studies.
How will I solve this? - I plan to partner up with the Equality Action Groups and Champions who are already investigating this issue. I will also cooperate with the RGU: Union and the University to come up with long-term, and effective solutions.
Priority Aim 3
What is the Aim - Provide equal opportunities for minority groups, such as Students with children, Online-Distance learning students, etc.
Why is it a priority? - Equality and Diversity is already in a stellar state in RGU. However, there is no reason why we should not try delving deeper in certain issues, and improve them.
What is the problem? - Minority groups do not necesserily have the same chances with other students in RGU, bringing inequality within RGU.
How will I solve this? - I will try to bridge the gap of inequality by incorporating small changes.
What is the biggest issue currently facing RGU students, and how will you work with the rest of the Student Presidents and Vice Presidents to tackle this?
Biggest issue? -
Alertness of financial support services available for RGU students is low. Students should capitalise on the opportunities accesible to them.
Solutions? -
1. Organise public and online promotions of the available ways students can seek financial support with the aid of fellow Student Presidents and Vice Presidents.
2. Partner up with various and relevant welfare societies, such as Go Green, and Peer Support to spread the word about the availablity of the services.
3. Make it more accessible to students who do not feel confortable to seek guidance for their financial state by providing choices and alternatives.
