What relevant experience, skills and qualities do you have that make you a strong candidate for this elected position?

As a postgraduate public health student and former class representative, I stand before you as a candidate for Vice President (Community) at Robert Gordon University. My journey, from serving as a bridge and voice for my classmates to leading administrative and customer service roles, has instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility and empathy. The skills I bring to this role include but not limited to communication, leadership and teamwork skill, empathy and student advocacy. Vying for Vice President (Community) at Robert Gordon University, as a candidate, I am committed to enhancing the student experience beyond the confines of academic studies perceiving the constraints to our collective progress . My manifesto revolves around fostering a vibrant and inclusive community while championing sustainability and social responsibilities through collaboration and innovative projects. For which in my agenda I aim to tackle.

Priority Aim 1

Community Engagement:
This agenda aims to cultivate a sense of belonging and mutual support within the university and local community. This is a priority as it enhances student well-being and enriches the overall community experience. In prospects to achieving this, I will organize impactful projects and events, forge partnerships and collaborate with student union, societies and sports clubs to create diverse and inclusive events. This thereby would empower students to actively engage with the community, fostering positive relationships and creating a more cohesive environment for all.

Priority Aim 2

Environmental Sustainability:
Recognizing the urgency of environmental sustainability, its importance in fostering a safe and ethical community, I will prioritize eco-friendly practices in all Union and University activities. Collaborating with student-led green initiatives and promoting sustainable development goals, I aim to create a campus culture that values environmental consciousness and fosters a safe and ethical community.

Priority Aim 3

Students Advocacy and well-being:
Emphasizing the aim to advocate for student's issues and promote safe, inclusive spaces, prioritizing student welfare and well-being. This point is pivotal to address concerns such as accommodation and job accessibility ensuring all students feel valued and empowered. By amplifying student voices and upholding principles of inclusion and safety, we aim to drive tangible change and create a supportive environment where every student's opinion matters. In collective cooperation with student groups and implementing initiatives to enhance diversity and equity, we plan to foster a campus culture that prioritizes student well-being and ensures a positive experience.

What is the biggest issue currently facing RGU students, and how will you work with the rest of the Student Presidents and Vice Presidents to tackle this?

The prominent issue currently faced by RGU students is the accessibility of job opportunities. To tackle this challenge, I propose forging symbiotic relationships between RGU and external establishments. By collaborating with other student leaders, I am committed to advocating for initiatives that enable students to access employment opportunities while providing benefits for both RGU and external organizations. Together, we can create pathways for students to gain valuable work experience and contribute to their financial stability, fostering a more supportive and inclusive environment for all RGU students.
