What relevant experience, skills and qualities do you have that make you a strong candidate for this elected position?

My name is Queen Uwakwe, and I am currently a postgraduate student enrolled in international business management. I'd want to be considered for the position of vice president of communities because I feel I can bring a new point of view to focus on the issues affecting our campus. If I am elected president of the student government, I will work hard to improve relations between the union and the student body and to increase two-way communication across the student union and the student body..

I am applying for this role because I understand the difficulties that students endure. These are the three things I'm focusing on most this year

Priority Aim 1

ENHANCING TRANSPORTATION
I understand the significance of having accessible, low-cost transportation options for students. Many students rely on buses to get to and from campus, and I am committed to improving the bus transportation service to make it easier for students to get where they need to go.

To achieve this goal, I will propose introducing a bus fee that would be added to the school fees for postgraduate students. A bus card would be issued to students at the time of enrollment, providing them with unlimited access to the bus transportation service for the entire academic year.

Priority Aim 2

DIVERSE CULTURAL PROGRAMMES
I believe that it is imperative to promote and celebrate the diverse cultural backgrounds of our student body at RGU. Our university is home to a rich tapestry of cultures and religions, and I am committed to ensuring that all students feel welcome and included.

I plan to prioritize the promotion of cultural and religious activities through events and collaborations with various societies. This will provide opportunities for students to learn about and experience different cultures and faiths, fostering greater understanding and respect for diversity within our community.

Priority Aim 3

IMPROVING HOUSING
As a candidate for the position of Vice President (Community) , I am committed to addressing the challenges faced by international students with dependents in securing accommodation.

It can be stressful for these students to find housing that is both affordable and accommodating to their unique needs.

To address this issue, I will collaborate with community landlords and housing agents to advertise their vacant apartments on the RGU website. By working with the RGU community, we can create a central platform where international students with dependents can view available housing options online and pay ahead of their arrival.

What is the biggest issue currently facing RGU students, and how will you work with the rest of the Student Presidents and Vice Presidents to tackle this?

Accommodation for students with dependents is one of the biggest challenge, By working with student presidents and vice president I will be committed to identify suitable housing option and develop a streamlined process for advertising and securing housing.

In addition I will work to raise awareness of this service and provide the support they need to make informed decisions about their housing option.

This approach will not only help to reduce the stress and anxiety experienced by international students with dependents, but it will also help to reduce the likelihood of these students being stranded on arrival without suitable housing.
