My name is Dami Yusuf and I am delighted to be running for the position of Vice President International. I am currently a third-year pharmacy student that is privileged to have created great memories within the enriched environment of our university thanks to the presence of international students.
Having previously worked with the RGU freshers’ team, I have been exposed to the diverse culture of our university, however I believe that promoting unity between the different cultures within the university can be improved. My aims are to improve understanding of the different cultures present at our university amongst all student, to highlight the beauty of each culture and how it enriches our education. I believe that this will promote respect between the existing cultures.
Secondly, I seek to empower international students and raise awareness of the great economic and social value they add to the community. This will lead to an improved sense of belonging to the community and nurture the confidence to take up roles within and out with the university.
Most importantly, I aim to improve the support available to international students especially in the area of employment. I believe the post study work route after graduating should be more inclusive towards retaining international students. Therefore, I am willing to work towards informing students about the opportunities available to them as well as working with the university boards to improve these opportunities and provide increased support in areas such as; tier 2 employers advice.
It would be a great honour to serve as the vice president international of the RGU student union. I do believe in my capabilities to project the international students in a positive dimension.
